vintage CTS Alnico magnet 3" cone tweeter, 8Ω—USA-made in 1967—excellent cond.

Offered for your consideration is one (1) vintage
CTS
3 inch Alnico magnet cone tweeter
made for
Sylvania
in 1967. CTS was a notable supplier to the domestic speaker industry from the late 1950’s to 1980’s. Per the EIA source/date code on the magnet cover, “137 736”, this high-frequency driver was made by CTS in the 36th week of 1967.
So, please see the large photos I’ve taken and read the remaining description to decide if this capable CTS tweeter is correct for your needs.
This CTS tweeter is in clean, excellent condition. It has a perfect paper cone and voice coil dustcap. Plus, the anodized steel basket is in great shape with no dings or oxidation noted. Plus, the +/- terminals measure the industry standard .205”, are marked for polarity, and have never been soldered on the spades.
It’s been fully tested and sounds very nice—clear and detailed with crisp highs approaching the sparkle zone. Plus, it has the Alnico magnet warmth that older drivers are sought for. And, I tested the DC resistance at 7.8Ω, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the flange measures 3” across, the cone proper is 2⅝”, it stands 1 9/16” tall, and the mount holes are spaced 2 7/16” adjacent / 3⅜” diagonal apart, c-t-c.
This is a nice find for someone that needs a replacement tweeter for their Sylvania or other domestic brand that used this pattern of high frequency driver in the late 1960’s and early 70’s.
